With Allah’s Name, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer Holy AI-Qur’an, Surat ‘Āli `Imrān, Ayat 45 – 46
Behold! the angels said: “O Mary! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honour in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah;
“He shall speak to the people in childhood and in maturity. And he shall be (of the company) of the righteous.”
WHAT DO NON-MUSLIMS SAY ABOUT THE HOLY Al-QUR’AN, Al-ISLAM, AND PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH):
Prophets in Islam are individuals who are believed to spread God’s message on Earth and serve as models of ideal human behavior. Some prophets are categorized as messengers, those who transmit divine revelation, most of them through the interaction of an angel. Muslims believe that many prophets existed, including many not mentioned in the Qur’an. The Qur’an states: “And for every community there is a messenger.” Belief in the Islamic prophets is one of the six articles of the Islamic faith. Prophets and messengers in Islam – Wikipedia

Dear Masjid Bilal of Cleveland,
I hope this email finds you well. I am Sally Takada, the Associate Dean of Artistic Programming and External Relations at Oberlin Conservatory. I am writing to invite you to a special concert presented by Oberlin Conservatory, which will take place at the Maltz Center for Performing Arts in Cleveland. (The address is 1855 Ansel Road, Cleveland, OH 44106). This is a concert performance of the opera Omar, composed in 2022 by Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels. This opera won the Pulitzer Prize in 2023, and the Oberlin Conservatory will be the first academic institution to present it. The Cleveland performance will occur on Sunday, December 8 at 7 pm.
Omar is the true story of 19th-century Islamic scholar Omar ibn Said, who was taken from his home in West Africa in 1807 and enslaved in South Carolina. Despite the brutality he faced, Omar maintained his faith and identity, eventually writing his autobiography in Arabic. This 200-year-old text is the source and inspiration for the first opera by MacArthur Fellowship recipient and Grammy and Pulitzer prize-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens (also an Oberlin alumna) and Michael Abels. Ms. Giddens will be one of the lead soloists performing in our production.
The pre-concert discussion at 6 p.m. will be a roundtable discussion about the narratives of enslaved individuals, including a specific discussion of enslaved Muslims.
I am contacting Masjid Bilal of Cleveland to invite you and your members to the December 8 concert. It is a free concert, and tickets are going quickly, so I have set aside a special block of tickets you and your community can access. You can go to https://ci.ovationtix.com/36661/production/1213032?promo=OMARCOMM
or use the code OMARCOMM at checkout to reserve your free tickets.
Best wishes,
